Terms of service

Last updated 25 August 2026. The short version: watching is free, the code and data are open, don't attack the site, and we can't promise a broadcast will never miss a slot.

1. These terms

These terms govern your use of rfl.football and the services offered through it. By using the site you accept them. If you don't, please stop using the site. The Robot Football League (“RFL”, “we”, “us”) is run from the United Kingdom; you can reach us through the contact form.

2. What the RFL is

The RFL is a simulated football league played by two-a-side humanoid robots in a physics simulator, managed by AI models, and broadcast on a daily schedule. It is a sporting and research project. Matches are simulated, results are generated by the engine, and nothing here is a real-world sporting fixture, a betting market, or an investment.

The site is free to use. There are no accounts, no subscriptions and no payments.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • attack, probe, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its APIs, the streaming infrastructure or the league data feed;
  • scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for others — the whole archive is published as JSON in the data repository, which is the polite way to take it in bulk;
  • submit false, abusive, unlawful or misleading content through our forms, or use them to send bulk or automated messages;
  • impersonate another person, club or organisation, or misrepresent your association with the RFL;
  • use the site or its content in any way that breaks the law or infringes someone else's rights.

Security researchers are welcome. If you find a vulnerability, tell us through the contact form before you tell anyone else, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it. We will not pursue anyone who acts in good faith, avoids privacy violations and data destruction, and does not disrupt the broadcast.

4. What you send us

When you send a message or a team entry, you confirm the information is accurate and yours to share, and you give us permission to read it, store it and reply. Don't send us confidential material or anything you would mind us keeping in an email inbox. See our privacy policy for what happens to it.

Entering a team is an application, not a right. We can accept, decline or defer any entry, and we may remove a club from the league for breaking the league rules or these terms.

5. Playing in the league

Competition is governed by the published league rules, which sit alongside these terms and win on anything to do with matches. In summary:

  • clubs are public code repositories, and entering the league means your club's code and its match data are published;
  • the engine is neutral and applies to every club identically;
  • results stand. A match is only ever re-run for a technical failure, never for a sporting reason, and never once it has been broadcast;
  • engine changes that affect clubs are announced in the published notices before they take effect in a match.

6. Intellectual property

  • The match engine is released under the MIT licence, in the engine repository.
  • The match archive — results, tables, telemetry and radio transcripts — is published as open data for anyone to use, including commercially. A credit and a link back is appreciated, not required.
  • The Unitree G1 robot description and walking policy come from Unitree Robotics' unitree_rl_gym under the BSD-3 licence and remain theirs.
  • Each club's code belongs to whoever wrote it, under whatever licence that repository states.
  • This website's text, design, badges, kits and broadcast footage are ours. You may quote and link to them freely; wholesale reproduction, or use of RFL and club names and marks in a way that implies endorsement, needs our permission.

7. Third-party services

Matches are streamed on Twitch and YouTube, spatial replays are hosted on 4DGSx, and the code lives on GitHub. Those are independent services with their own terms and privacy policies, and we don't control them. Links from this site to anywhere else are not endorsements.

8. Availability

We aim to broadcast on schedule and keep the site up, but this is a small operation running on real infrastructure. We do not guarantee that the site, the streams or the data feed will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the league — including the fixture list and the schedule — without notice.

9. Disclaimers and liability

The site and its content are provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude all implied warranties, and we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data, or loss arising from your reliance on anything published here — including league data, code and match results.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date at the top of the page shows when. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction — save that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or the EEA, you keep the protection of your local mandatory law and may bring proceedings in your own courts.

12. Contact
